Rob’s Story

ZANDRA

“I was reintroduced to Christ in 2004 by a total stranger who prayed with me. He invited me to church & shortly thereafter became my best friend & brother in Christ. When I gave my life to Christ, I learned that because of Jesus’ death on the cross I am forgiven & through Him I could have inner peace, self-worth & direction for my life. I became a new creation experiencing His loving presence & plan for my life, & took my next step in Baptism. Jesus is now the Captain of my ship, the Engine of my faith & Hope, and I am ready, willing & able to be used as a vessel to bring Him glory.”

“I was one of those who grew up in church. At an early age I was led to a relationship with Christ, however I faltered later in life because despite the years of knowing God, It was not yet personal for me. I questioned a lot of things I knew over the years because it seemed I did not have that ‘bad’ road to show I went down. But then in my early twenties, I looked back and I could see the times I REALLY messed up, times God protected me, and times I went opposite of God’s plan and direction for me. Then I saw the times He corrected me and when He really worked on my heart to draw me back to the relationship that had been waiting for me all along; He truly spoke to me about rededicating my life toward Him. I can say being saved at a real young age I am not sure I truly got the concept of ‘Hope in Christ’ until later in life since I had not yet made it personal for me. It was not until my mid-twenties that God spoke to me and told me that I still had lots to learn. And that He wanted to do so much more in and through my life. Everyday I struggle as most of us if we’re really honest do, but it is so refreshing to know that I truly have Hope in Christ!!!!”

MELISSA

“Raised in a Christian home, it was easy for me to follow Christ fully at 8 years old. That relationship continued to grow even through ups and downs of life and marriage, until my divorce about 5 years ago. My world was shattered and I lost everything, but I still had an unexplainable peace that ONLY Christ could give! Today I am stronger, at peace and God has blessed me in so many ways. When I look back, I know that Hope in Christ means no matter what we face, when we want to give up, Jesus is faithful! He brings you through with Hope that most don’t understand BUT that gives you the chance to share your story and help them find Hope in Christ!!”

JODY

“I was born into a family that had many issues and religion was one of them. I was raised in a Lutheran church, confirmed, and was an alter boy, and after that we stopped going to church. My family never said why we stopped going we just did; I never saw Christ again until I was in the military. We had chapel during bootcamp, and it was quite a salvation for me during all the issues and discipline that haunted me. When I graduated bootcamp and went to my duty station, a church was not offered. After five years in the military I attended college and never once looked to the Lord—of course, He was always there. He saved me from a near death accident that landed me in the hospital and I found myself leaving school one semester shy of a science degree. I started a new career and life, both of which I had become very successful in. I found that I had many talents and never realized that God had gifted me these talents all while preparing me for the moment when I would leave that business and discover my calling to God and ministry. My relationship with God now is one of pure growth–thanks to the guidance of my Senior Pastor and his associates, I am now taking a Foundations Class from Saddleback Church; I partner with the Youth Pastor at Church of Hope every Tuesday leading a morning devotion at Interfaith; and I am a Youth Leader in 1440 Student Ministries.”

“My Hope in Christ means that no matter what happens in life, you gotta know that the Lord is always with you because, like He said, He will never leave you nor forsake you! I feel good knowing that God is always working things out for me because through the years I always tried to figure out things or just tried to get ahead of myself, but when I started putting my trust in Him I felt so much better because God is working on my behalf and the outcome is gonna be wonderful and that’s where I find Hope in Christ!”

JAMES & KATELYN

“Hope in Christ, to us, means being able to trust and believe that God is in control and that a life and marriage with Him at the center can become so much more than you ever imagined. Our lives started so far away from each other, in distance and faith. At this point in our lives we have a wonderful marriage, great lives we’re living and investing in, and 2 miracle children we were never supposed to be able to conceive. God has blessed our lives beyond anything we ever hoped for, and it is thanks to His grace and love that we know we can have Hope for tomorrow, and that it gets even better.”

ASHLEY

“I was raised a Christian. Although I spent every Sunday morning, Sunday evening, & Wednesday evening in church, as well as a week every year at church camp, I never knew the true meaning of being a Christian. I prayed, but never understood prayer. I loved, but never understood love. When I turned 16, I began dating a guy who was troubled & thought I could ‘fix’ him, thought I ‘loved’ him. He became abusive & yet I still thought he ‘loved’ me. At 17, I became pregnant by him & he attempted to kill me & my baby while I was pregnant. It was then that I started questioning if God really existed & if so, why was this happening to me? I’m very fortunate that I survived as did my baby, but why? Fast forward 5 years. By this time I had met my husband & he adopted my daughter. I was still lost in the world. I lost myself, I became an adulterer, a liar & I hated life. I had no hope left, so I thought. In 2013, I met a man named Mark. Little did I know, he’d change my life forever. I kept hearing him talk about God, about his church & he was always positive about everything. I had been diagnosed with M.S., I was put on hefty medications, told I should’ve been in a wheelchair by now & I had given up. Then, it was like everywhere I looked, I saw the word ‘hope’. I decided to check his church out. I felt like I finally belonged. I slowly started getting into the swing of things again, then joined the greeting team & then the music team. I rededicated my life to Christ & refused to give up. Being a Christian is knowing who God is, being who God wants you to be. Being a Christian is knowing God is faithful even when you are faithless. It’s loving people as God loves them. It’s learning that your disability doesn’t define who you are. It’s learning that my past doesn’t define me, but it’s part of my foundation to build me into the person God created me to be. I’m a sinner set free. I’ve given it all to God, asked for forgiveness, & I’ve forgiven all who have wronged me. God is my Alpha & Omega, my beginning & end. I hope to help show others that in Christ, there is Hope! I want to show others that giving up is not an option.”
